How would we describe Dr. Andrew Henritze? Two words: family man. As a father of 6, husband, and dentist, Dr. Henritze leads an exciting and busy life.

Dr. Henritze’s venture into dentistry began at a young age. I knew at the age of 12 that I wanted to be a dentist. “I love working with my hands and being with people. Most areas of the medical field would allow me to do that, but I have a genuine love of doing dentistry,” Dr. Henritze explained.

Once he decided on dentistry, Dr. Henritze attended Virginia Tech and the Medical College of Virginia at Virginia Commonwealth University and graduated cum laude from both institutions. After completing his dental residency in 1997, he came back home to Roanoke to practice and opened Henritze Dental in 2001. Educating patients about the significance of oral health is has always been very important to Dr. Henritze, because a patient’s oral health is crucial to their overall health.

After practicing for 21 years, Dr. Henritze still loves his job. “I enjoy the actual job of being a dentist. Patient interaction is fantastic, and I love building relationships with my patients,” he said. Many of his patients are generations of families who came to him when they were children, and who are now bringing their children to him. He says that the welcoming feeling of family is one of the most important things to him in his practice.

Dr. Henritze found family in his staff as well as his patient community. “My staff…they mean the world to me,” Dr. Henritze explained. “Without them, my office would be nothing like it is.” A few of his staff members have known Dr. Henritze for over a decade. Kara, the office manager, and Tammy, the lead assistant, have worked with Dr. Henritze since he opened the practice 17 years ago! Even for recent additions to the practice, Dr. Henritze believes the whole team is his second family. “We all know what’s going on in each others’ lives. I couldn’t ask for a better staff.”

We can’t talk about family without mentioning his own large family, of course. Dr. Henritze and his wife, Katie, have 6 children, including two sets of twins, ranging from ages 8 to 15.

Everything Dr. Henritze does comes back to family, whether it be his Henritze family, his dental family, or his community family. The close-knit connections he’s formed are one of the many reasons why the Henritze name is a Roanoke mainstay. As Dr. Henritze always says: “our family treats your family.”
