What do you do to keep your teeth healthy? Do you brush twice a day, visit your dentist twice a year, and floss daily? All of these things are important to your oral health—but did you know that it’s also important for you to protect your teeth while you’re playing sports? The most efficient way to protect your teeth during sporting events is simply wearing a mouthguard.
Your mouth may suffer a number of serious issues if you play sports. For example, you could experience trauma which could even lead to a dislodged tooth. If this happens, you’ll need to have the tooth replaced. If you don’t, you could have to cope with a number of serious issues, such as bad breath, gum disease (which can actually lead to gum and heart disease), and your other teeth could shift out of place. So please remember to wear a mouthguard when you’re participating in sports—especially during contact sports.
There are a number of mouthguard options you can consider. For instance, you could choose a store-bought mouthguard. However, these can be uncomfortable and may not fit you well. You could also consider a boil-and-bite mouthguard, which will be more comfortable. Your best option may be to consider the benefits of a custom mouthguard made by our dentist. These mouthguards will fit more comfortably and provide better protection.
